"This short paper promotes debate concerning how synchronous multimedia communication systems (SMMCS) technology mitigates the barriers between the remote student and the learning experience."
About Virt classrooms, webinars, etc (Helen R!). Action reseaerch project and soc const epistimology.
Found many students encountered significant tech difficulties in using such tex and this required a lot more support than expected.
Not a substitute for f2f tho beneficial for DL studs.
Not a vehicle for for didactic delivery (they podcasts may be a better vehicle!!! Audacity. Huh! ;-) )

Interesting, as this pretty much flies in the face of the noises I was hearing about Elluminate from practitioners OU. Sure these were DL students, but there's with the contexts given there's no evidence that they aren't equally valulable to other modes of delivery.
Ease of use.. again no complaints from staff or students - the only recurring issue appears to be sound quality. Like any tool, synchronous environments require experience, practice and confidence to gain maximum quality of experience, but I would suggest that this is can be achieved without too much angst.
I'd also disagree with the statement about suitability for didactic delivery - it's dependent on the context - in fact in some cases it may be better for didactic delivery than f2f or podcasting. Our particular tool is hugely versatile and by Christmas I expect us to have a raft of use cases.
(it's a remarkable view from up here on my high horse!):) If they've written anything up I'd be interested to see it..
You managed to make more sense out of my post than I have on return visit... adverse conditions! I don't expect they've written anything up and I don't think you'll find me arguing with your take on this. Where are you keeping the horse by the way?
It's stabled in the lift lobby, but I'll move it to under brians desk while he's away..
